notes: vuoto 1 is an exploration of “void” — not silence, but sound reduced to its bare essentials. Strings and piano are prepared, winds altered through unconventional techniques (a wah-wah mute in the clarinet, a closed hole in the piccolo that forces air through the keyholes). These manipulations strip the sound of stability, giving it a fragile, unstable quality, always close to breaking.
The process of emptying becomes structural: what starts as subtraction turns into the driving force of the piece, shaping form through the instability of sound itself.
